Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Auto, Power and Green Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.94% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.75%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 20.45% or 86.05 points to trade at 506.90 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 5.08% or 45.25 points to end at 935.35 and Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) was up 3.92% or 32.00 points to 848.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which lost 2.75% or 211.65 points to trade at 7482.15 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 2.17% or 3.55 points to end at 160.00 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) shed 1.56% or 18.85 points to 1191.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 5.17% to 935.55, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 3.41% to settle at 199.90 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which gained 3.34% to close at 249.35.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 2.71% to 7484.35 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 1.05% to settle at 2646.85 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 0.64% to 19290.55 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 872 to 856 and 49 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1633 rose and 1522 declined, while 128 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.59% to 16.1000.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.67% or 11.75 to $1771.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.58% or 0.47 to hit $80.17 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.51 to trade at $82.91 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.11% to 75.382, while EUR/INR rose 0.22% to 87.1840.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 94.267.
