Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals, Consumer Durables and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.89%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 6.07% or 20.70 points to trade at 361.65 at the close. Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) added 5.66% or 113.95 points to end at 2,127.50 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was up 4.88% or 41.85 points to 900.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which lost 1.25% or 55.00 points to trade at 4,335.00 in late trade. Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) declined 1.13% or 208.45 points to end at 18,180.20 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) shed 1.09% or 10.35 points to 935.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which rose 5.69% to 2,128.00, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 4.88% to settle at 900.30 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 3.52% to close at 1,611.30.
The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 1.26% to 4,338.35 in late trade, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which lost 1.14% to settle at 18,187.00 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.05% to 686.65 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1319 to 500 and 52 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2173 rose and 998 declined, while 147 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.25% to 19.20 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.24% or 4.10 to $1,740.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.73% or 0.72 to hit $99.25 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.63% or 0.63 to trade at $101.32 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.13% to 79.15, while EUR/INR rose 0.32% to 80.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 106.69.
