Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate, Consumer Durables and Metals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.85% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.87%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC), which rose 3.16% or 74.30 points to trade at 2424.65 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 2.82% or 6.90 points to end at 251.45 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 2.44% or 2.45 points to 102.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which lost 1.08% or 5.60 points to trade at 512.45 in late trade. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) declined 0.90% or 0.95 points to end at 104.90 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) shed 0.85% or 43.85 points to 5113.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 2.69% to 103.10, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was up 2.66% to settle at 2413.50 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 2.35% to close at 516.10.
The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 1.00% to 512.70 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 0.94% to settle at 917.95 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 0.90% to 104.85 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1013 to 650 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1774 rose and 1129 declined, while 162 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.75% to 19.2000.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.65% or 12.00 to $1867.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.44% or 0.21 to hit $47.83 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.43% or 0.22 to trade at $50.98 a barrel.
USD/INR was unchanged 0.00% to 73.556, while EUR/INR rose 0.44% to 89.7680.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 90.097.
