India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.53%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals, Banking and Power sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.53%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.53%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which rose 3.96% or 122.95 points to trade at 3227.00 at the close. Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) added 3.52% or 14.75 points to end at 433.70 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 3.25% or 28.80 points to 914.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which lost 3.10% or 43.20 points to trade at 1349.00 in late trade. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) declined 3.00% or 74.85 points to end at 2419.00 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) shed 2.54% or 172.80 points to 6643.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 3.67% to 3218.95, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 2.89% to settle at 105.00 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 2.69% to close at 575.50.

The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 2.65% to 1361.50 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 2.54% to settle at 858.30 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 2.44% to 6652.00 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1036 to 600 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1611 fell and 1176 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.10% to 20.8900.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.60% or 10.35 to $1746.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.43% or 0.27 to hit $62.88 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.32% or 0.21 to trade at $66.37 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.08% to 75.112, while EUR/INR rose 0.00% to 89.8970.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.00% at 91.670.
