Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Beverages, Basic Resources and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Financial Services, Transportation & Logistics and Software sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.80%, while the MDAX index lost 0.21%, and the TecDAX index gained 0.78%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (XETRA:FMEG), which rose 2.20% or 1.690 points to trade at 78.420 at the close. Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (XETRA:TKAG) added 1.88% or 0.455 points to end at 24.595 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (XETRA:CBKG) was up 1.73% or 0.210 points to 12.340 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Merck KGAA O.N. (XETRA:MRCG), which lost 0.48% or 0.460 points to trade at 95.140 in late trade. Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DPWGn) added 0.04% or 0.010 points to end at 26.950 and Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG) gained 0.12% or 0.015 points to 12.625.
The top performers on the MDAX were Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which rose 5.78% to 34.745, Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (XETRA:GWIG) which was up 5.19% to settle at 31.290 and Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which gained 4.84% to close at 15.495.
The worst performers were Gagfah SA Nom. (XETRA:GFJG) which was down 12.61% to 14.000 in late trade, Deutsche Annington Immobilien SE (XETRA:ANNGn) which lost 5.19% to settle at 27.66 and Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (XETRA:DWNG) which was down 3.87% to 21.365 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which rose 5.87% to 2.147, LPKF Laser & Electronics (XETRA:LPKG) which was up 4.87% to settle at 8.510 and Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which gained 4.70% to close at 6.600.
The worst performers were BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which was down 1.58% to 279.500 in late trade, SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which lost 0.75% to settle at 18.620 and Wirecard AG (XETRA:WDIG) which was down 0.25% to 37.525 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 440 to 305 and 35 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 3.72% to 23.03.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.38% or 4.50 to $1189.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.88% or 1.15 to hit $60.11 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.08% or 1.36 to trade at $64.12 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 1.09% to 1.1275, while EUR/GBP rose 1.09% to 0.7346.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.72% at 95.31.
