Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Construction, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare and Retail sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Basic Resources, Financial Services and Food & Beverages sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.14%, while the MDAX index fell 0.07%, and the TecDAX index gained 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Merck KGAA O.N. (XETRA:MRCG), which rose 1.37% or 1.370 points to trade at 101.250 at the close. Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DPWGn) added 0.99% or 0.285 points to end at 29.075 and Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (XETRA:HEIG) was up 0.90% or 0.690 points to 77.040 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SAP AG O.N. (XETRA:SAPG), which lost 1.29% or 0.890 points to trade at 68.300 in late trade. Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG) declined 1.03% or 1.100 points to end at 105.350 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p) shed 0.90% or 2.100 points to 230.500.
The top performers on the MDAX were Fuchs Petrolub AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:FPEG_p) which rose 1.65% to 39.630, Hochtief AG (XETRA:HOTG) which was up 1.42% to settle at 69.060 and Bilfinger SE O.N. (XETRA:GBFG) which gained 1.40% to close at 40.915.
The worst performers were Aareal Bank AG (XETRA:ARLG) which was down 3.28% to 36.560 in late trade, Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (XETRA:DWNG) which lost 2.54% to settle at 23.390 and Kuka AG (XETRA:KU2G) which was down 2.20% to 70.220 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Evotec AG O.N. (XETRA:EVTG) which rose 4.26% to 4.063, QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which was up 3.19% to settle at 2.070 and Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:SATG_p) which gained 2.78% to close at 162.450.
The worst performers were Cancom SE O.N. (XETRA:COKG) which was down 2.57% to 35.650 in late trade, LPKF Laser & Electronics (XETRA:LPKG) which lost 1.25% to settle at 9.000 and Drillisch AG O.N. (XETRA:DRIG) which was down 1.09% to 44.275 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 373 to 370 and 37 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 0.80% to 19.81 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.32% or 3.90 to $1204.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.87% or 1.69 to hit $60.67 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.39% or 1.55 to trade at $66.58 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.31% to 1.1128, while EUR/GBP fell 0.54% to 0.7101.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.31% at 95.36.
