Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Beverages, Basic Resources and Construction sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Telecoms, Software and Consumer & Cyclical sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.03% to hit a new 52-week high, while the MDAX index gained 0.51%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which rose 1.87% or 2.550 points to trade at 138.800 at the close. Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) added 1.21% or 1.900 points to end at 158.900 and Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) was up 0.73% or 0.22 points to 30.32 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Boerse AG Z.UMT. (DE:DB11), which lost 1.43% or 1.15 points to trade at 79.01 in late trade. Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN) declined 0.96% or 1.400 points to end at 144.750 and Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) shed 0.74% or 0.095 points to 12.680.
The top performers on the MDAX were Suedzucker AG (DE:SZUG) which rose 4.07% to 23.025, Norma Group AG NA O.N. (DE:NOEJ) which was up 3.00% to settle at 39.805 and Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which gained 2.90% to close at 37.115.
The worst performers were Airbus Group SE (F:AIRG) which was down 1.29% to 62.941 in late trade, Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which lost 0.81% to settle at 9.04 and Evonik Industries AG (DE:EVKn) which was down 0.56% to 28.520 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Alix Resources Corp (F:37N2) which rose 3.12% to 0.033, Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which was up 2.75% to settle at 7.060 and STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which gained 2.06% to close at 46.005.
The worst performers were Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which was down 1.84% to 40.295 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which lost 1.28% to settle at 7.690 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 1.18% to 24.610 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 389 to 372 and 30 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 0.29% to 14.98.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.05% or 0.55 to $1133.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.41% or 0.22 to hit $53.08 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.60% or 0.33 to trade at $55.02 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.43% to 1.0434, while EUR/GBP rose 0.62% to 0.8451.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.27% at 102.98.
