Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Beverages, Telecoms and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Retail, Consumer & Cyclical and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.60%, while the MDAX index lost 0.59%, and the TecDAX index added 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (XETRA:CBKG), which rose 2.30% or 0.285 points to trade at 12.685 at the close. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DBKGn) added 1.37% or 0.425 points to end at 31.440 and Deutsche Telekom AG Na (XETRA:DTEGn) was up 0.86% or 0.145 points to 16.935 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Muench. Rueckvers. VNA O.N. (XETRA:MUVGn), which lost 1.94% or 3.850 points to trade at 194.950 in late trade. Beiersdorf AG O.N. (XETRA:BEIG) declined 1.80% or 1.470 points to end at 80.240 and Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG) shed 1.79% or 2.000 points to 110.000.
The top performers on the MDAX were Aurubis AG (XETRA:NAFG) which rose 1.67% to 55.340, Airbus Group (XETRA:AIRG) which was up 1.64% to settle at 65.602 and Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which gained 1.48% to close at 11.970.
The worst performers were A.Springer AG VNA (XETRA:SPRGn) which was down 2.89% to 52.480 in late trade, Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (XETRA:BOSSn) which lost 2.86% to settle at 113.700 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which was down 2.10% to 30.035 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Evotec AG O.N. (XETRA:EVTG) which rose 3.01% to 3.901, Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (XETRA:O2Dn) which was up 2.59% to settle at 5.540 and Morphosys AG O.N. (XETRA:MORG) which gained 2.26% to close at 66.470.
The worst performers were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which was down 3.97% to 6.504 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which lost 3.86% to settle at 4.685 and QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which was down 3.13% to 1.889 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 480 to 255 and 31 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 1.96% to 21.29.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.11% or 13.30 to $1189.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.35% or 0.20 to hit $56.41 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.25% or 0.78 to trade at $62.85 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.13% to 1.0723, while EUR/GBP fell 0.73% to 0.7140.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 98.27.
