Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Retail, Financial Services and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Food & Beverages, Transportation & Logistics and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.44%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.10%, and the TecDAX index declined 1.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Muench. Rueckvers. VNA O.N. (XETRA:MUVGn), which rose 1.49% or 2.550 points to trade at 173.250 at the close. Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (XETRA:DB1Gn) added 1.07% or 0.900 points to end at 84.760 and Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG) was up 0.95% or 0.115 points to 12.185 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DPWGn), which lost 3.64% or 1.030 points to trade at 27.240 in late trade. Deutsche Telekom AG Na (XETRA:DTEGn) declined 1.74% or 0.300 points to end at 16.990 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (XETRA:IFXGn) shed 1.45% or 0.150 points to 10.195.
The top performers on the MDAX were Duerr AG O.N. (XETRA:DUEG) which rose 6.48% to 82.600, Brenntag AG (XETRA:BNRGn) which was up 4.62% to settle at 55.470 and Rheinmetall AG (XETRA:RHMG) which gained 4.36% to close at 54.780.
The worst performers were Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which was down 5.12% to 14.180 in late trade, Tui AG NA (XETRA:TUIGn) which lost 4.35% to settle at 14.945 and Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (XETRA:SY1G) which was down 4.18% to 60.940 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Xing AG (XETRA:OBCGn) which rose 4.71% to 159.000, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:SATG_p) which was up 1.95% to settle at 201.150 and PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (XETRA:PSAGn) which gained 1.42% to close at 12.505.
The worst performers were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which was down 6.43% to 5.571 in late trade, Freenet AG NA (XETRA:FNTGN) which lost 5.06% to settle at 31.340 and BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which was down 3.81% to 288.200 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 430 to 310 and 36 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 2.69% to 17.16.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.40% or 4.30 to $1089.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.95% or 0.88 to hit $44.27 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.20% or 0.59 to trade at $48.99 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.26% to 1.0933, while EUR/GBP rose 0.78% to 0.7044.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 97.84.
