Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Chemicals, Technology and Construction sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 1.43%, while the MDAX index declined 0.51%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG), which rose 0.20% or 0.025 points to trade at 12.770 at the close. Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (XETRA:FREG) fell 0.02% or 0.010 points to end at 62.540 and Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (XETRA:DB1Gn) was down 0.04% or 0.030 points to 84.120 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BASF SE NA O.N. (XETRA:BASFN), which lost 4.55% or 3.770 points to trade at 79.100 in late trade. Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p) declined 2.72% or 5.300 points to end at 189.800 and Daimler AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DAIGn) shed 2.19% or 1.830 points to 81.890.
The top performers on the MDAX were Deutsche Annington Immobilien SE (XETRA:ANNGn) which rose 1.98% to 27.80, Talanx AG NA O.N. (XETRA:TLXGn) which was up 1.88% to settle at 29.025 and Rheinmetall AG (XETRA:RHMG) which gained 1.80% to close at 50.070.
The worst performers were Kloeckner & Co SE NA (XETRA:KCOGn) which was down 5.60% to 8.296 in late trade, MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (XETRA:MTXGn) which lost 3.22% to settle at 80.440 and Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (XETRA:GWIG) which was down 2.31% to 20.930 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (XETRA:AFXG) which rose 2.46% to 25.450, Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (XETRA:O2Dn) which was up 0.97% to settle at 5.513 and Stratec Biomedical (XETRA:SBSG) which gained 0.90% to close at 52.430.
The worst performers were CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (XETRA:COPMa) which was down 7.51% to 32.250 in late trade, BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which lost 2.33% to settle at 290.900 and Dialog Semiconductor (XETRA:DLGS) which was down 2.22% to 50.600 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 541 to 206 and 41 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 6.29% to 18.58.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.90% or 9.80 to $1084.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.07% or 0.52 to hit $47.93 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.55% or 0.85 to trade at $54.41 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.11% to 1.0973, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.7073.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.13% at 97.41.
