Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Technology, Software and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 1.17%, while the MDAX index fell 0.70%, and the TecDAX index declined 1.90%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were E.ON SE NA (XETRA:EONGn), which rose 1.20% or 0.170 points to trade at 14.305 at the close. RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG) added 1.02% or 0.245 points to end at 24.180 and Lanxess AG (XETRA:LXSG) was up 0.98% or 0.480 points to 49.690 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (XETRA:IFXGn), which lost 3.32% or 0.375 points to trade at 10.910 in late trade. SAP AG O.N. (XETRA:SAPG) declined 2.28% or 1.540 points to end at 66.060 and Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DPWGn) shed 2.02% or 0.605 points to 29.310.

The top performers on the MDAX were Kuka AG (XETRA:KU2G) which rose 3.38% to 74.580, Tui AG NA (XETRA:TUIGn) which was up 1.70% to settle at 16.410 and Fuchs Petrolub AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:FPEG_p) which gained 1.49% to close at 38.840.

The worst performers were Osram Licht (XETRA:OSRn) which was down 2.94% to 44.461 in late trade, Talanx AG NA O.N. (XETRA:TLXGn) which lost 2.02% to settle at 28.900 and Rheinmetall AG (XETRA:RHMG) which was down 1.90% to 45.635 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Kontron AG O.N. (XETRA:KBCG) which rose 2.87% to 6.064, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:SATG_p) which was up 2.77% to settle at 118.800 and PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (XETRA:PSAGn) which gained 1.90% to close at 12.315.

The worst performers were BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which was down 5.67% to 278.450 in late trade, Dialog Semiconductor (XETRA:DLGS) which lost 4.56% to settle at 39.800 and LPKF Laser & Electronics (XETRA:LPKG) which was down 3.83% to 10.290 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 513 to 222 and 37 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.39% to 18.29.

In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.40% or 4.80 to $1196.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.75% or 0.83 to hit $48.34 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.48% or 0.81 to trade at $55.92 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.32% to 1.0959, while EUR/GBP rose 0.05% to 0.7360.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.27% at 97.17.
