Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Food & Beverages, Construction and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.62%, while the MDAX index fell 0.35%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG), which rose 1.96% or 0.390 points to trade at 20.310 at the close. Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG) added 1.15% or 0.135 points to end at 11.835 and Merck KGAA O.N. (XETRA:MRCG) was up 0.89% or 0.840 points to 94.770 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BASF SE NA O.N. (XETRA:BASFN), which lost 1.64% or 1.400 points to trade at 83.850 in late trade. K & S AG NA O.N. (XETRA:SDFGN) declined 1.46% or 0.425 points to end at 28.615 and Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DPWGn) shed 1.29% or 0.355 points to 27.130.
The top performers on the MDAX were STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (XETRA:STAGn) which rose 1.20% to 31.080, Talanx AG NA O.N. (XETRA:TLXGn) which was up 0.93% to settle at 27.690 and Deutsche Annington Immobilien SE (XETRA:ANNGn) which gained 0.81% to close at 25.62.
The worst performers were Wacker Chemie O.N. (XETRA:WCHG) which was down 1.95% to 98.200 in late trade, Rheinmetall AG (XETRA:RHMG) which lost 1.75% to settle at 47.085 and LEG Immobilien AG (XETRA:LEGn) which was down 1.69% to 64.500 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (XETRA:COPMa) which rose 2.84% to 32.600, SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which was up 2.73% to settle at 21.665 and Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:SATG_p) which gained 1.59% to close at 172.300.
The worst performers were Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which was down 3.70% to 7.545 in late trade, Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which lost 2.33% to settle at 6.450 and Cancom SE O.N. (XETRA:COKG) which was down 2.26% to 31.390 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 479 to 260 and 44 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was unchanged 0.00% to 25.41 a new 3-year high.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.31% or 3.70 to $1172.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.39% or 0.85 to hit $60.16 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.68% or 1.08 to trade at $63.37 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.04% to 1.1173, while EUR/GBP rose 0.38% to 0.7127.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 95.71.
