Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Food & Beverage, Chemicals and Transportation & Logistics sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.54% to hit a new all time high, while the MDAX index fell 0.59%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.06%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (XETRA:CBKG), which rose 0.90% or 0.100 points to trade at 11.250 at the close. Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (XETRA:DB1Gn) added 0.80% or 0.550 points to end at 69.150 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p) was up 0.73% or 1.550 points to 214.250 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG), which lost 2.39% or 0.340 points to trade at 13.865 in late trade. Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (XETRA:FREG) declined 2.29% or 1.125 points to end at 48.080 and Bayer AG NA (XETRA:BAYGN) shed 2.00% or 2.550 points to 125.250.

The top performers on the MDAX were Metro AG ST O.N. (XETRA:MEOG) which rose 0.91% to 29.800, Celesio AG Nam. O.N. (XETRA:CLSGn) which was up 0.83% to settle at 26.795 and Hannover Rueckversicherung SE (XETRA:HNRGn) which gained 0.61% to close at 82.070.

The worst performers were Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (XETRA:SY1G) which was down 2.90% to 54.920 in late trade, Fielmann AG O.N. (XETRA:FIEG) which lost 2.48% to settle at 59.270 and Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which was down 2.46% to 13.110 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which rose 3.91% to 2.047, CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (XETRA:COPMa) which was up 3.24% to settle at 25.500 and Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which gained 2.86% to close at 7.189.

The worst performers were Bechtle AG O.N. (XETRA:BC8G) which was down 5.87% to 71.510 in late trade, Xing AG (XETRA:OBCGn) which lost 3.79% to settle at 109.150 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (XETRA:AFXG) which was down 2.45% to 23.900 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 371 to 361 and 19 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 4.30% to 18.48.

In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 2.46% or 31.00 to $1231.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in March rose 2.75% or 1.39 to hit $51.87 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract rose 2.73% or 1.54 to trade at $58.12 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 1.33% to 1.1325, while EUR/GBP fell 0.81% to 0.7427.

The US Dollar Index was up 1.21% at 94.80.
