Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Technology and Consumer & Cyclical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 2.22%, while the MDAX index climbed 1.98%, and the TecDAX index gained 1.98%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG), which rose 6.24% or 0.730 points to trade at 12.425 at the close. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (XETRA:IFXGn) added 5.21% or 0.498 points to end at 10.055 and E.ON SE NA (XETRA:EONGn) was up 4.93% or 0.361 points to 7.677 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (XETRA:TKAG), which added 0.42% or 0.065 points to trade at 15.680 in late trade. Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (XETRA:FREG) added 0.84% or 0.500 points to end at 60.000 and Lanxess AG (XETRA:LXSG) gained 1.04% or 0.430 points to 41.815.
The top performers on the MDAX were GEA Group AG (XETRA:G1AG) which rose 5.88% to 34.035, Rheinmetall AG (XETRA:RHMG) which was up 4.64% to settle at 54.780 and Metro AG ST O.N. (XETRA:MEOG) which gained 4.46% to close at 24.690.
The worst performers were Gagfah SA Nom. (XETRA:GFJG) which was down 0.65% to 15.400 in late trade, Axel Springer SE (XETRA:SPRGn) which lost 0.54% to settle at 49.920 and LEG Immobilien AG (XETRA:LEGn) which was down 0.53% to 73.810 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which rose 7.25% to 38.620, LPKF Laser & Electronics (XETRA:LPKG) which was up 6.08% to settle at 8.336 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (XETRA:NEKG) which gained 6.06% to close at 33.600.
The worst performers were Dialog Semiconductor (XETRA:DLGS) which was down 1.73% to 35.770 in late trade, Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (XETRA:DRWG_p) which lost 0.44% to settle at 75.270 and PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (XETRA:PSAGn) which was down 0.37% to 12.000 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 557 to 120 and 39 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.45% to 27.50.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 1.12% or 12.60 to $1114.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.24% or 0.11 to hit $45.34 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.57% or 0.28 to trade at $48.51 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.69% to 1.1172, while EUR/GBP fell 0.53% to 0.7387.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.42% at 96.46.
