Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology, Media and Financial Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 2.15%, while the MDAX index gained 2.09%, and the TecDAX index climbed 1.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DBKGn), which rose 4.92% or 1.325 points to trade at 28.275 at the close. Merck KGAA O.N. (XETRA:MRCG) added 4.16% or 3.720 points to end at 93.100 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p) was up 3.97% or 8.250 points to 216.250 in late trade.
Biggest losers included K & S AG NA O.N. (XETRA:SDFGN), which lost 0.03% or 0.010 points to trade at 37.775 in late trade. RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG) added 0.26% or 0.050 points to end at 19.335 and E.ON SE NA (XETRA:EONGn) gained 0.38% or 0.045 points to 11.995.
The top performers on the MDAX were Osram Licht (XETRA:OSRn) which rose 5.22% to 45.653, Duerr AG O.N. (XETRA:DUEG) which was up 4.74% to settle at 87.520 and Leoni AG NA O.N. (XETRA:LEOGn) which gained 3.80% to close at 58.780.
The worst performers were Gerresheimer AG (XETRA:GXId) which was down 0.83% to 55.860 in late trade, Sky Deutschland AG NA (XETRA:SKYDn) which lost 0.13% to settle at 6.740 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which was down 0.02% to 32.055 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were LPKF Laser & Electronics (XETRA:LPKG) which rose 6.00% to 8.162, Nemetschek AG O.N. (XETRA:NEKG) which was up 5.65% to settle at 30.500 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (XETRA:AFXG) which gained 5.31% to close at 24.085.
The worst performers were Evotec AG O.N. (XETRA:EVTG) which was down 6.11% to 3.333 in late trade, Drillisch AG O.N. (XETRA:DRIG) which lost 1.39% to settle at 39.440 and Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (XETRA:DRWG_p) which was down 0.34% to 95.780 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 579 to 156 and 41 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was unchanged 0.00% to 27.06 a new 3-year high.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.19% or 2.20 to $1169.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 3.04% or 1.81 to hit $57.66 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.52% or 0.96 to trade at $62.62 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.60% to 1.1076, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.7094.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.59% at 96.31.
