Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Construction, Insurance and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 1.82% to hit a new 52-week high, while the MDAX index climbed 0.59%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.88%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which rose 5.75% or 1.055 points to trade at 19.400 at the close. Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) added 3.59% or 0.285 points to end at 8.234 and Allianz SE VNA O.N. (DE:ALVG) was up 3.31% or 5.200 points to 162.500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which lost 1.02% or 0.130 points to trade at 12.655 in late trade. Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) declined 0.32% or 0.10 points to end at 29.95 and Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) 0.00% or 0.000 points to 87.860.
The top performers on the MDAX were Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which rose 4.53% to 28.125, GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which was up 3.71% to settle at 38.820 and K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) which gained 3.37% to close at 24.830.
The worst performers were Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE:BOSSn) which was down 1.90% to 60.530 in late trade, Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which lost 1.80% to settle at 4.75 and Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which was down 1.78% to 29.315 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were RIB Software AG Na (DE:RIB) which rose 3.49% to 12.160, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was up 2.74% to settle at 70.170 and Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which gained 2.72% to close at 44.295.
The worst performers were Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was down 0.96% to 4.120 in late trade, Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which lost 0.62% to settle at 177.050 and Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was down 0.19% to 51.900 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 553 to 208 and 22 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 4.35% to 15.06.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.95% or 11.45 to $1199.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.17% or 0.09 to hit $53.27 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $55.45 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.06% to 1.0737, while EUR/GBP fell 0.70% to 0.8510.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.21% at 100.06.
