Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare, Financial Services and Media sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.22% to hit a new 52-week high, while the MDAX index gained 1.02%, and the TecDAX index climbed 1.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG), which rose 3.57% or 2.670 points to trade at 77.540 at the close. Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG) added 2.65% or 1.820 points to end at 70.380 and Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) was up 2.23% or 0.65 points to 29.84 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 2.99% or 0.535 points to trade at 17.340 in late trade. Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) declined 2.85% or 0.690 points to end at 23.510 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) shed 1.28% or 0.210 points to 16.195.
The top performers on the MDAX were Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which rose 4.69% to 29.465, RTL Group SA (DE:RRTL) which was up 4.40% to settle at 68.600 and Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (DE:SY1G) which gained 4.13% to close at 57.790.
The worst performers were Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which was down 2.59% to 34.190 in late trade, Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which lost 2.25% to settle at 36.735 and Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which was down 2.02% to 9.92 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which rose 4.29% to 78.780, Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which was up 3.40% to settle at 6.380 and Qiagen NV (DE:QGEN) which gained 3.04% to close at 26.940.
The worst performers were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was down 8.33% to 40.900 in late trade, Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which lost 2.41% to settle at 19.000 and S&T AG (F:SANT1) which was down 1.93% to 8.900 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 468 to 291 and 32 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 2.30% to 16.34.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.98% or 11.45 to $1160.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.28% or 0.65 to hit $51.49 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.48% or 0.26 to trade at $54.15 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.78% to 1.0534, while EUR/GBP fell 0.79% to 0.8374.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.62% at 101.74.
