Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare, Software and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.20%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.36%, and the TecDAX index climbed 1.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (XETRA:FREG), which rose 1.79% or 1.110 points to trade at 63.280 at the close. Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG) added 1.65% or 0.205 points to end at 12.645 and Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (XETRA:DB1Gn) was up 1.58% or 1.320 points to 84.820 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Continental AG O.N. (XETRA:CONG), which lost 1.93% or 4.100 points to trade at 208.750 in late trade. Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p) declined 1.44% or 2.900 points to end at 197.900 and Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG) shed 1.18% or 1.120 points to 93.550.
The top performers on the MDAX were Evonik Industries AG (XETRA:EVKn) which rose 3.25% to 35.620, Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (XETRA:SY1G) which was up 1.78% to settle at 58.940 and Tui AG NA (XETRA:TUIGn) which gained 1.75% to close at 15.390.
The worst performers were Talanx AG NA O.N. (XETRA:TLXGn) which was down 3.27% to 27.950 in late trade, Kion Group AG (XETRA:KGX) which lost 3.14% to settle at 39.20 and Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which was down 2.79% to 16.195 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which rose 17.82% to 33.750, BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which was up 4.77% to settle at 299.700 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (XETRA:NEKG) which gained 4.38% to close at 35.490.
The worst performers were Kontron AG O.N. (XETRA:KBCG) which was down 1.58% to 3.431 in late trade, PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (XETRA:PSAGn) which lost 1.32% to settle at 11.250 and Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which was down 1.14% to 9.413 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 458 to 293 and 31 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 4.08% to 19.51 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.67% or 7.70 to $1145.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.53% or 1.34 to hit $51.70 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.96% or 1.15 to trade at $57.53 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.37% to 1.0969, while EUR/GBP fell 0.32% to 0.7018.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.40% at 97.19.
