Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Retail, Media and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 1.47%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.83%, and the TecDAX index added 0.78%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Continental AG O.N. (ETR:CONG), which rose 6.84% or 3.72 points to trade at 58.08 at the close. Bayer AG NA (ETR:BAYGN) added 3.16% or 0.80 points to end at 26.12 and RWE AG ST O.N. (ETR:RWEG) was up 3.00% or 0.93 points to 31.93 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Commerzbank AG O.N. (ETR:CBKG), which lost 3.72% or 0.49 points to trade at 12.69 in late trade. Beiersdorf AG O.N. (ETR:BEIG) declined 2.28% or 3.00 points to end at 128.40 and Covestro AG (ETR:1COV) shed 0.52% or 0.28 points to 53.32.
The top performers on the MDAX were HelloFresh SE (ETR:HFGG) which rose 7.04% to 5.45, Rational AG (ETR:RAAG) which was up 5.60% to settle at 867.50 and United Internet AG NA (ETR:UTDI) which gained 5.28% to close at 17.36.
The worst performers were Evotec AG O.N. (ETR:EVTG) which was down 34.63% to 5.45 in late trade, Puma SE (ETR:PUMG) which lost 10.81% to settle at 36.96 and Fraport AG (ETR:FRAG) which was down 3.00% to 44.62 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Suess Microtec NA O.N. (ETR:SMHNn) which rose 8.64% to 55.30, United Internet AG NA (ETR:UTDI) which was up 5.28% to settle at 17.36 and Siltronic AG (ETR:WAFGn) which gained 5.22% to close at 73.55.
The worst performers were Evotec AG O.N. (ETR:EVTG) which was down 34.63% to 5.45 in late trade, Kontron AG (ETR:KTN) which lost 4.60% to settle at 16.79 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (ETR:AFXG) which was down 2.76% to 61.65 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 474 to 138 and 33 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 10.91% to 23.53.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.13% or 3.25 to $2,434.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.18% or 2.33 to hit $75.53 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.75% or 2.10 to trade at $78.58 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 1.09, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.20% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 102.99.
