Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Chemicals, Media and Food & Beverage sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 1.04% to hit a new all time high, while the MDAX index climbed 0.85%, and the TecDAX index added 0.29%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Bayer AG NA (XETRA:BAYGN), which rose 3.69% or 4.700 points to trade at 132.000 at the close. Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (XETRA:FMEG) added 3.63% or 2.500 points to end at 71.430 and BASF SE NA O.N. (XETRA:BASFN) was up 2.23% or 1.900 points to 87.020 in late trade.

Biggest losers included RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG), which lost 1.44% or 0.360 points to trade at 24.700 in late trade. E.ON SE NA (XETRA:EONGn) declined 0.70% or 0.100 points to end at 14.145 and Allianz SE VNA O.N. (XETRA:ALVG) shed 0.60% or 0.900 points to 149.050.

The top performers on the MDAX were Hochtief AG (XETRA:HOTG) which rose 5.53% to 71.900, Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (XETRA:PSMGn) which was up 3.60% to settle at 43.700 and STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (XETRA:STAGn) which gained 2.50% to close at 29.325.

The worst performers were Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (XETRA:GWIG) which was down 7.53% to 33.625 in late trade, Kloeckner & Co SE NA (XETRA:KCOGn) which lost 5.54% to settle at 9.446 and LEG Immobilien AG (XETRA:LEGn) which was down 0.79% to 73.960 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which rose 4.00% to 3.483, Xing AG (XETRA:OBCGn) which was up 2.07% to settle at 123.400 and Evotec AG O.N. (XETRA:EVTG) which gained 2.06% to close at 3.865.

The worst performers were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which was down 4.03% to 7.354 in late trade, Morphosys AG O.N. (XETRA:MORG) which lost 3.01% to settle at 74.760 and Stratec Biomedical (XETRA:SBSG) which was down 2.72% to 43.495 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 479 to 251 and 36 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 4.07% to 15.08 a new 1-month low.

In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.61% or 7.30 to $1208.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in April fell 3.08% or 1.57 to hit $49.42 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 0.84% or 0.52 to trade at $61.12 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 1.32% to 1.1211, while EUR/GBP fell 0.66% to 0.7268.

The US Dollar Index was up 1.05% at 95.23.
