FTSE 100 welcomes the week with losses; U.K. shares mixed at market open

Investing.com – U.K. equities started mixed on Monday. Industrial Metals & Mining, Personal Goods, Mining and Construction & Building Materials rose; while Aerospace & Defense, Media, Support Services and Food Producers declined.

At the market open in London, the FTSE 100 Index dropped 0.21%. The FTSE 250 Index and the FTSE 350 Index also fell. The FTSE 250 declined 0.09%, while the FTSE 350 was down by 0.11%.

Top Gainers:

  • Fresnillo (LON:FRES): Increased 1.50% or 8.00 points to 540.00
  • Glencore (LON:GLEN): Climbed 1.20% or 4.85 points to 408.70
  • Admiral Group (LON:ADML): Rose 1.12% or 33.0 points to 2,993.0

Top Losers:

  • BAE Systems (LON:BAES): Fell 1.88% or 25.42 points to 1,324.58
  • Pershing Square (NYSE:SQ): Declined 1.69% or 61.80 points to 3,592.20
  • Rolls-Royce (LON:RR): Dropped 1.31% or 6.56 points to 494.44

  • Gold Futures for December delivery climbed 4.80 points to 2,542.60 a troy ounce.

  • October Brent Oil Contract fell 0.30% or 0.24 points to 79.44 a barrel.

Currency Markets:

  • GBP/USD continues its journey inside 1.29 territory at 1.2963.
  • EUR/GBP is stable at 0.85.
  • The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 101.940.

Main Economic Events:

Today's main economic event in the United Kingdom is the house price index from Rightmove (LON:RMV). This week we have public sector net borrowing on Wednesday, PMI data (Composite, Manufacturing and Services) on Thursday and speech from the BoE Governor Bailey on Friday.
