Investing.com – France equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Personal Goods, Foods & Drugs and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 gained 2.57%, while the SBF 120 index climbed 2.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Peugeot SA (PARIS:PEUP), which rose 6.41% or 0.81 points to trade at 13.46 at the close. Valeo SA (PARIS:VLOF) added 5.69% or 6.50 points to end at 120.75 and Carrefour SA (PARIS:CARR) was up 4.63% or 1.17 points to 26.44 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ArcelorMittal SA (AMS:ISPA), which lost 0.83% or 0.04 points to trade at 4.66 in late trade. Orange SA (PARIS:ORAN) added 0.71% or 0.10 points to end at 13.52 and Safran SA (PARIS:SAF) gained 0.76% or 0.51 points to 67.30.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Maurel Et Prom (PARIS:MAUP) which rose 7.43% to 3.31, Peugeot SA (PARIS:PEUP) which was up 6.41% to settle at 13.46 and Remy Cointreau (PARIS:RCOP) which gained 6.15% to close at 58.67.
The worst performers were Neopost (PARIS:NPOS) which was down 15.71% to 23.28 in late trade, CGG (PARIS:GEPH) which lost 4.88% to settle at 3.08 and Vallourec (PARIS:VLLP) which was down 2.19% to 7.92 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 511 to 212 and 47 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was down 5.81% to 30.41.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 1.07% or 12.10 to $1114.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.22% or 0.10 to hit $45.33 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.28 to trade at $48.52 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.65% to 1.1176, while EUR/GBP fell 0.51% to 0.7388.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.40% at 96.44.
