Investing.com – France equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Media and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 rose 0.67% to hit a new 5-year high, while the SBF 120 index gained 0.67%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Orange SA (PARIS:ORAN), which rose 2.64% or 0.39 points to trade at 15.17 at the close. Societe Generale (PARIS:SOGN) added 2.50% or 1.09 points to end at 44.83 and Saint Gobain (PARIS:SGOB) was up 2.37% or 0.96 points to 41.52 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Technip (PARIS:TECF), which lost 1.57% or 0.94 points to trade at 58.97 in late trade. Carrefour (PARIS:CARR) declined 1.02% or 0.33 points to end at 31.56 and Kering (PARIS:PRTP) shed 0.90% or 1.70 points to 188.05.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Rubis (PARIS:RUBF) which rose 5.29% to 60.94, Technicolor (PARIS:TCH) which was up 4.16% to settle at 6.229 and Innate Pharma (PARIS:IPH) which gained 3.09% to close at 10.680.
The worst performers were Virbac (PARIS:VIRB) which was down 2.35% to 226.20 in late trade, Euler Hermes (PARIS:ELER) which lost 1.59% to settle at 102.15 and Technip (PARIS:TECF) which was down 1.57% to 58.97 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 519 to 387 and 46 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was down 10.42% to 16.61.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.31% or 3.70 to $1191.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.53% or 0.25 to hit $47.20 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.15% or 0.65 to trade at $55.27 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.24% to 1.0919, while EUR/GBP rose 0.35% to 0.7346.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.23% at 97.42.
