France shares higher at close of trade

Investing.com – France equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Gas Water, Utilities and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 rose 0.50% to hit a new 5-year high, while the SBF 120 index climbed 0.45%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Veolia Environnement (PARIS:VIE), which rose 2.55% or 0.425 points to trade at 17.070 at the close. GDF Suez (PARIS:GSZ) added 2.31% or 0.43 points to end at 19.24 and Technip (PARIS:TECF) was up 2.18% or 1.26 points to 59.16 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Airbus Group (PARIS:AIR), which lost 1.87% or 0.99 points to trade at 51.85 in late trade. Safran (PARIS:SAF) declined 1.25% or 0.77 points to end at 60.92 and Valeo (PARIS:VLOF) shed 1.18% or 1.60 points to 133.65.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Innate Pharma (PARIS:IPH) which rose 5.58% to 10.210, Suez Environnement (PARIS:SEVI) which was up 4.50% to settle at 16.940 and Saft (PARIS:S1A) which gained 3.22% to close at 31.07.

The worst performers were Genfit (PARIS:GNFT) which was down 3.14% to 65.910 in late trade, Airbus Group (PARIS:AIR) which lost 1.87% to settle at 51.85 and Bureau Veritas (PARIS:BVI) which was down 1.49% to 19.90 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 529 to 396 and 45 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was down 7.68% to 17.32 a new 1-month low.

In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.42% or 5.00 to $1195.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in April rose 0.79% or 0.39 to hit $49.84 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract rose 0.67% or 0.40 to trade at $59.30 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.15% to 1.1318, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.7325.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 94.74.
