China shares lower at close of trade; Shanghai Composite down 4.06%

Investing.com – China equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Telecoms, Mobile and Electricity sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Shanghai, the Shanghai Composite lost 4.06%, while the SZSE Component index lost 4.22%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Shanghai Composite were Huayin Elec (SS:600744), which rose 10.04% or 0.910 points to trade at 9.970 at the close. Silver Plaza (SS:600858) added 10.02% or 1.310 points to end at 14.390 and Gofar (SS:600538) was up 10.02% or 1.000 points to 10.980 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Metallurgical (SS:601618), which lost 10.03% or 1.080 points to trade at 9.690 in late trade. Nanfang Textle (SS:600483) declined 10.02% or 1.580 points to end at 14.190 and Shanghai Elec (SS:600021) shed 10.01% or 2.910 points to 26.160.

The top performers on the SZSE Component were Suzhou Gold Mantis Construction Decoration Co Ltd (SZ:002081) which rose 2.28% to 30.90, Goertek Inc (SZ:002241) which was up 0.65% to settle at 32.47 and Suning Commerce Group Co Ltd (SZ:002024) which gained 0.43% to close at 14.01.

The worst performers were ZTE Corp (SZ:000063) which was down 7.77% to 28.50 in late trade, Financial Street Holdings Co Ltd (SZ:000402) which lost 7.17% to settle at 13.20 and Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science and Technology Co Ltd (SZ:000157) which was down 6.89% to 7.43 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 854 to 112 on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

The CBOE China Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Shanghai Composite options, was down 2.62% to 29.31.

In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.03% or 0.40 to $1187.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.13% or 0.07 to hit $58.85 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.06% or 0.04 to trade at $66.41 a barrel.

USD/CNY was down 0.05% to 6.2052, while EUR/CNY fell 0.51% to 6.8875.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.30% at 95.87.
