Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Materials, Mining and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.60%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Enbridge Income Fund Holdings Inc . (TO:ENF), which rose 3.88% or 1.37 points to trade at 36.64 at the close. Norbord Inc . (TO:NBD) added 3.48% or 0.87 points to end at 25.85 and Canadian Utilities Limited (TO:CU) was up 3.40% or 1.24 points to 37.68 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp . (TO:PRE), which lost 11.90% or 0.47 points to trade at 3.48 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) declined 9.91% or 0.22 points to end at 2.00 and Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC) shed 9.54% or 1.34 points to 12.71.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 799 to 604 and 166 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 8.97% to 9.74.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.94% or 10.80 to $1133.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.15% or 0.07 to hit $50.84 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.33% or 0.18 to trade at $57.10 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.16% to 0.7703, while CAD/EUR rose 0.27% to 0.7110.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.33% at 98.08.
