Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Mining, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.60%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Silver Standard Resources Inc . (TO:SSO), which rose 5.62% or 0.42 points to trade at 7.89 at the close. Firstservice Corp (TO:FSV) added 4.89% or 1.76 points to end at 37.75 and Osisko Gold Ro (TO:OR) was up 4.57% or 0.73 points to 16.69 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bankers Petroleum Ltd . (TO:BNK), which lost 9.97% or 0.290 points to trade at 2.620 in late trade. Canadian Oil Sands Limited (TO:COS) declined 6.82% or 0.67 points to end at 9.15 and Trilogy Energy Corp (TO:TET) shed 6.45% or 0.35 points to 5.08.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 842 to 529 and 205 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.79% to 12.36 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.10% or 1.20 to $1169.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 4.91% or 2.73 to hit $52.80 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 5.88% or 3.54 to trade at $56.77 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.62% to 0.7903, while CAD/EUR fell 0.13% to 0.7148.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 96.44.
