Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Materials, Telecoms and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 2.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ShawCor Ltd . (TSX:SCL), which rose 50.00% or 0.41 points to trade at 1.23 at the close. Inter Pipeline Ltd (TSX:IPL) added 23.76% or 1.49 points to end at 7.76 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES) was up 16.28% or 0.14 points to 1.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC), which lost 18.30% or 0.280 points to trade at 1.250 in late trade. Alamos Gold Inc (TSX:AGI) declined 16.75% or 1.31 points to end at 6.51 and Cascades Inc . (TSX:CAS) shed 15.41% or 1.96 points to 10.76.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 622 to 504 and 67 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.68% or 10.00 to $1489.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 9.61% or 2.49 to hit $23.42 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 4.04% or 1.15 to trade at $27.32 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.81% to 0.6945, while CAD/EUR rose 1.09% to 0.6512.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 103.597.
