Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, Industrials and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.87%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TO:KL), which rose 4.56% or 1.610 points to trade at 36.900 at the close. ShawCor Ltd . (TO:SCL) added 4.42% or 0.82 points to end at 19.39 and Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG) was up 4.20% or 0.26 points to 6.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TO:CPG), which lost 6.77% or 0.30 points to trade at 4.13 in late trade. Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TO:LIF) declined 6.46% or 1.58 points to end at 22.89 and Lundin Mining Corporation (TO:LUN) shed 6.31% or 0.375 points to 5.565.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 769 to 352 and 97 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.88% to 17.87.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.14% or 1.75 to $1284.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.96% or 1.06 to hit $52.98 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.02% or 1.27 to trade at $61.47 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.39% to 0.7493, while CAD/EUR fell 0.34% to 0.6593.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 95.970.
