Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Energy, Materials and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.82% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY), which rose 6.61% or 2.95 points to trade at 47.55 at the close. Converge Technology Solutions Corp (TSX:CTS) added 6.33% or 0.54 points to end at 9.07 and Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) was up 5.29% or 1.49 points to 29.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR), which lost 7.45% or 0.42 points to trade at 5.22 in late trade. Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) declined 6.29% or 0.37 points to end at 5.51 and Yamana Gold Inc (TSX:YRI) shed 5.45% or 0.41 points to 7.11.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 847 to 258 and 73 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.56% to 18.11 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.84% or 35.55 to $1,898.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 3.07% or 3.13 to hit $98.94 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 3.40% or 3.61 to trade at $102.54 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 0.79, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.67% to 0.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.52% at 101.74.
