Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Telecoms and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Dollarama Inc (TSX:DOL), which rose 5.27% or 3.68 points to trade at 73.49 at the close. Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) added 4.79% or 0.40 points to end at 8.75 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG) was up 3.46% or 0.45 points to 13.46 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX:ENGH), which lost 19.78% or 6.69 points to trade at 27.14 in late trade. Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) declined 6.87% or 1.08 points to end at 14.64 and TFI International Inc (TSX:TFII) shed 5.49% or 5.87 points to 101.05.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 692 to 329 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.31% to 17.81.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.13% or 2.45 to $1,854.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.65% or 3.17 to hit $122.58 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.84% or 3.43 to trade at $124.00 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.18% to 0.80, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.29% to 0.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 102.56.
