Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Materials, Financials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which rose 4.69% or 1.31 points to trade at 29.25 at the close. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) added 4.42% or 1.52 points to end at 35.88 and Waste Connections Inc (TSX:WCN) was up 2.76% or 4.53 points to 168.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aecon Group Inc . (TSX:ARE), which lost 8.09% or 1.65 points to trade at 18.75 in late trade. TFI International Inc (TSX:TFII) declined 7.27% or 10.78 points to end at 137.43 and Yamana Gold Inc (TSX:YRI) shed 6.57% or 0.34 points to 4.91.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 617 to 417 and 104 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.03% or 18.55 to $1784.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.70% or 0.58 to hit $83.39 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.18% or 0.15 to trade at $83.81 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.34% to 0.8070, while CAD/EUR rose 0.77% to 0.6986.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.92% at 94.183.
