Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ), which rose 3.39% or 0.75 points to trade at 22.90 at the close. Corus Entertainment Inc (TSX:CJRb) added 3.06% or 0.09 points to end at 3.03 and Home Capital Group Inc . (TSX:HCG) was up 3.01% or 0.68 points to 23.27 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which lost 6.51% or 0.370 points to trade at 5.315 in late trade. Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:CVE) declined 4.73% or 0.24 points to end at 4.83 and Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) shed 4.49% or 0.84 points to 17.86.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 534 to 525 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.35% or 6.60 to $1902.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.51% or 0.21 to hit $40.75 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.83% or 0.36 to trade at $42.80 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.26% to 0.7582, while CAD/EUR rose 0.23% to 0.6473.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 93.715.
