Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Materials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NuVista Energy Ltd . (TSX:NVA), which rose 11.34% or 0.220 points to trade at 2.160 at the close. Gran Tierra Energy Inc (TSX:GTE) added 11.30% or 0.200 points to end at 1.970 and Ensign Energy Services Inc (TSX:ESI) was up 9.97% or 0.32 points to 3.53 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pretium Resources Inc. (TSX:PVG), which lost 8.91% or 1.53 points to trade at 15.65 in late trade. Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) declined 6.59% or 0.80 points to end at 11.34 and CannTrust Holdings Inc (TSX:TRST) shed 6.01% or 0.1400 points to 2.1900.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 607 to 483 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.73% to 12.96.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.56% or 8.45 to $1507.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.71% or 1.53 to hit $58.05 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $62.67 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7592, while CAD/EUR rose 0.00% to 0.6873.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 98.287.
