Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Materials, Utilities and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TO:APH), which rose 6.42% or 0.670 points to trade at 11.100 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) added 6.00% or 1.910 points to end at 33.760 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) was up 4.62% or 0.340 points to 7.700 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Parex Resources Inc (TO:PXT), which lost 5.42% or 1.260 points to trade at 21.990 in late trade. New Gold Inc (TO:NGD) declined 5.22% or 0.130 points to end at 2.360 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) shed 4.79% or 0.23 points to 4.57.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 556 to 508 and 137 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.39% to 12.79.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.52% or 6.40 to $1224.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.66% or 0.45 to hit $67.81 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.16% or 0.12 to trade at $72.95 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.16% to 0.7595, while CAD/EUR rose 0.08% to 0.6494.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 94.40.
