Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Mining, Energy and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Autocanada Inc (TO:ACQ), which rose 7.76% or 3.23 points to trade at 44.87 at the close. BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) added 6.20% or 0.74 points to end at 12.67 and Cott Corporation (TO:BCB) was up 5.65% or 0.61 points to 11.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sherritt International Corporation (TO:S), which lost 4.84% or 0.15 points to trade at 2.95 in late trade. Canexus Corporation (TO:CUS) declined 4.71% or 0.08 points to end at 1.62 and Painted Pony P (TO:PPY) shed 4.68% or 0.39 points to 7.94.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 813 to 604 and 207 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 15.19% to 15.85 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.53% or 6.30 to $1182.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.24% or 0.14 to hit $59.24 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.80% or 0.53 to trade at $65.63 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.19% to 0.8264, while CAD/EUR rose 0.30% to 0.7409.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.22% at 95.11.
