Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Industrials and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR), which rose 7.01% or 0.69 points to trade at 10.54 at the close. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) added 5.78% or 0.40 points to end at 7.32 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) was up 4.62% or 0.200 points to 4.530 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gran Tierra Energy Inc (TSX:GTE), which lost 6.11% or 0.140 points to trade at 2.150 in late trade. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) declined 4.82% or 20.800 points to end at 410.700 and Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TSX:VII) shed 4.61% or 0.31 points to 6.41.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 532 to 515 and 127 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.66% to 11.62.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.65% or 23.10 to $1423.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.56% or 0.32 to hit $57.75 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $64.12 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 0.7587, while CAD/EUR fell 0.01% to 0.6654.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 95.498.
