Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Financials, Energy and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Black Diamond Group Limited (TO:BDI), which rose 12.38% or 1.56 points to trade at 14.16 at the close. Superior Plus Corp (TO:SPB) added 4.89% or 0.62 points to end at 13.30 and Finning International Inc. (TO:FTT) was up 4.73% or 1.09 points to 24.13 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lightstream Resources Ltd (TO:LTS), which lost 6.85% or 0.10 points to trade at 1.36 in late trade. Silver Standard Resources Inc. (TO:SSO) declined 5.82% or 0.42 points to end at 6.80 and Pan American Silver Corp. (TO:PAA) shed 5.78% or 0.77 points to 12.55.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 741 to 689 and 180 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was down 1.98% to 16.79 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.46% or 5.60 to $1202.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in April fell 2.12% or 1.10 to hit $50.73 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 0.16% or 0.10 to trade at $60.12 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.29% to 0.7980, while CAD/EUR fell 0.36% to 0.7015.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.04% at 94.44.
