Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.18% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were DH Corp (TO:DH), which rose 11.00% or 1.60 points to trade at 16.15 at the close. Whitecap Resources Inc . (TO:WCP) added 7.95% or 0.87 points to end at 11.82 and Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) was up 7.35% or 0.74 points to 10.81 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which lost 5.65% or 0.160 points to trade at 2.670 in late trade. Boyd Group Income Fund (TO:BYD_u) declined 3.66% or 3.27 points to end at 86.12 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) shed 3.61% or 0.070 points to 1.870.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 811 to 382 and 120 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.43% to 14.47.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.39% or 4.70 to $1213.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 4.06% or 1.88 to hit $48.24 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 4.44% or 2.08 to trade at $48.94 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.68% to 0.7454, while CAD/EUR rose 0.33% to 0.7013.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.47% at 100.93.
