Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pan American Silver Corp (TO:PAA), which rose 15.01% or 2.94 points to trade at 22.53 at the close. Gran Tierra Energy Inc . (TO:GTE) added 10.36% or 0.400 points to end at 4.260 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) was up 10.14% or 0.60 points to 6.52 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN), which lost 6.93% or 0.83 points to trade at 11.14 in late trade. Amaya Inc (TO:AYA) declined 4.48% or 0.94 points to end at 20.04 and ECN Capital Corp (TO:ECN) shed 3.91% or 0.11 points to 2.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 657 to 526 and 128 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.61% to 15.10.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.49% or 5.95 to $1227.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 5.84% or 2.53 to hit $45.85 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 5.90% or 2.62 to trade at $47.05 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.84% to 0.7436, while CAD/EUR rose 0.92% to 0.6932.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 100.18.
