Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Financials, Telecoms and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 9.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Frontera Energy Corp (TSX:FEC), which rose 24.36% or 0.95 points to trade at 4.85 at the close. Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) added 22.89% or 2.20 points to end at 11.81 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) was up 21.88% or 0.140 points to 0.780 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Alamos Gold Inc (TSX:AGI), which lost 18.47% or 1.23 points to trade at 5.43 in late trade. Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX) declined 18.43% or 4.61 points to end at 20.41 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) shed 17.09% or 2.30 points to 11.16.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 711 to 427 and 69 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 3.85% or 61.20 to $1529.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 4.67% or 1.47 to hit $32.97 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 4.52% or 1.50 to trade at $34.72 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.89% to 0.7245, while CAD/EUR rose 1.61% to 0.6522.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.08% at 98.515.
