Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Telecoms, Energy and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT), which rose 11.14% or 13.62 points to trade at 135.83 at the close. Shaw Communications Inc Class B (TSX:SJRb) added 7.79% or 2.70 points to end at 37.34 and Rogers Communications Inc (TSX:RCIb) was up 5.88% or 3.47 points to 62.48 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which lost 5.93% or 1.60 points to trade at 25.37 in late trade. Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT) declined 5.60% or 1.33 points to end at 22.41 and Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK) shed 4.88% or 0.18 points to 3.51.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 643 to 335 and 97 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.31% to 22.84.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.01% or 0.10 to $1,840.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.72% or 0.78 to hit $108.77 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.99% or 1.12 to trade at $114.24 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.35% to 0.77, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.25% to 0.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 104.28.
