Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Materials, Clean Technology and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.14% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO), which rose 12.90% or 0.48 points to trade at 4.20 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:AG) added 11.97% or 0.84 points to end at 7.86 and NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) was up 10.35% or 0.56 points to 5.97 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which lost 1.71% or 0.04 points to trade at 2.30 in late trade. Pason Systems Inc . (TSX:PSI) declined 1.66% or 0.22 points to end at 13.03 and Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd (TSX:BDGI) shed 1.61% or 0.59 points to 36.14.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 697 to 240 and 89 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.76% to 10.96.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.75% or 44.60 to $2,587.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.76% or 1.86 to hit $69.17 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.21% or 1.56 to trade at $72.17 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.58% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 101.23.
