Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.99%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which rose 14.43% or 2.360 points to trade at 18.710 at the close. Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX:WTE) added 12.92% or 2.21 points to end at 19.31 and Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) was up 11.61% or 2.470 points to 23.750 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS), which lost 4.69% or 2.60 points to trade at 52.88 in late trade. Gfl Environmental Inc (TSX:GFL) declined 3.03% or 1.20 points to end at 38.37 and Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) shed 2.42% or 0.67 points to 27.06.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 736 to 316 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.12% or 20.30 to $1833.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.78% or 1.01 to hit $57.86 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.49% or 0.89 to trade at $60.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.12% to 0.7850, while CAD/EUR rose 0.10% to 0.6512.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 90.953.
