Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Winpak Ltd. (TSX:WPK), which rose 7.75% or 3.50 points to trade at 48.67 at the close. BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) added 5.76% or 5.44 points to end at 99.84 and Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA) was up 5.65% or 1.20 points to 22.43 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE), which lost 6.13% or 0.31 points to trade at 4.75 in late trade. Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE) declined 2.16% or 0.21 points to end at 9.53 and Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TSX:KEL) shed 1.83% or 0.11 points to 5.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 690 to 265 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.34% to 13.14.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.35% or 31.70 to $2,385.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.97% or 1.54 to hit $76.74 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.91% or 1.57 to trade at $80.80 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.15% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 104.06.
