Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Real Matters Inc (TSX:REAL), which rose 8.61% or 2.10 points to trade at 26.48 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) added 7.80% or 0.39 points to end at 5.39 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) was up 7.31% or 0.28 points to 4.11 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX), which lost 18.95% or 1.88 points to trade at 8.04 in late trade. Linamar Corporation (TSX:LNR) declined 3.60% or 1.37 points to end at 36.70 and Tourmaline Oil Corp . (TSX:TOU) shed 3.50% or 0.43 points to 11.87.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 694 to 344 and 78 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.99% or 17.70 to $1798.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.98% or 0.39 to hit $39.31 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.27% or 0.53 to trade at $41.32 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.65% to 0.7368, while CAD/EUR rose 0.77% to 0.6560.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 97.375.
