Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Real Estate, REITs and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.87% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MTY Food Group Inc (TSX:MTY), which rose 11.12% or 4.75 points to trade at 47.45 at the close. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) added 9.70% or 0.49 points to end at 5.54 and Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) was up 6.10% or 1.88 points to 32.72 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CES Energy Solutions Corp (TSX:CEU), which lost 5.26% or 0.41 points to trade at 7.39 in late trade. Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) declined 3.96% or 0.41 points to end at 9.95 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) shed 3.60% or 1.12 points to 29.95.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 639 to 313 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.30% to 8.76.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.69% or 40.25 to $2,419.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.04% or 0.85 to hit $82.95 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.67% or 0.57 to trade at $85.65 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.44% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.55% at 104.16.
