Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Energy and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.78%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TO:APHA), which rose 6.18% or 0.770 points to trade at 13.235 at the close. Dollarama Inc (TO:DOL) added 6.12% or 2.18 points to end at 37.83 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) was up 5.99% or 0.19 points to 3.36 in late trade.
Biggest losers included MAG Silver Corp (TO:MAG), which lost 7.15% or 1.02 points to trade at 13.25 in late trade. Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV) declined 6.23% or 1.250 points to end at 18.810 and BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) shed 5.12% or 0.69 points to 12.79.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 638 to 434 and 128 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.21% to 12.68.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.49% or 6.30 to $1292.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.71% or 1.63 to hit $61.77 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $69.19 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.01% to 0.7514, while CAD/EUR rose 0.10% to 0.6706.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 96.817.
