Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the REITs, IT and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.76%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which rose 7.05% or 5.08 points to trade at 77.16 at the close. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) added 5.74% or 0.93 points to end at 17.14 and SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM) was up 5.13% or 0.33 points to 6.76 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI), which lost 13.84% or 1.12 points to trade at 6.97 in late trade. Great-West Lifeco Inc . (TSX:GWO) declined 3.37% or 1.40 points to end at 40.16 and Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) shed 3.36% or 0.29 points to 8.35.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 590 to 354 and 112 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.83% to 8.73.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.11% or 26.05 to $2,373.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.28% or 0.94 to hit $74.19 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.25% or 0.97 to trade at $78.49 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.04% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 104.26.
