Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Consumer Discretionary and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.73% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG), which rose 11.88% or 0.36 points to trade at 3.39 at the close. Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET) added 10.30% or 0.58 points to end at 6.26 and Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF) was up 9.38% or 0.38 points to 4.43 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL), which lost 7.55% or 1.19 points to trade at 14.58 in late trade. New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) declined 4.68% or 0.140 points to end at 2.850 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) shed 4.68% or 0.23 points to 4.79.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 699 to 327 and 90 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.45% or 8.85 to $1955.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 5.04% or 2.40 to hit $50.02 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 5.09% or 2.60 to trade at $53.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.97% to 0.7900, while CAD/EUR rose 0.58% to 0.6423.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.47% at 89.422.
